The Alexander Menagerie -- November, 2007

Update with little news

Not much has happened with the Alexander menagerie in the past few months. I suppose that's mostly a good thing!

I'm not getting a puppy anytime soon. I was very sad to find out that Tory's breeding didn't take. Beauty is due to have pups in December, but I want a birdier pup, so I'm going to wait. Besides, I have other things going on this spring and wouldn't have time for a pup right then.

Guin is home from Eden Farms. She loved it there, and it was good for her, but I almost never saw her. It seemed silly to pay hundreds of dollars a month not to see my horse. So she's home and not happy about it. She rather enjoyed being queen of her own pasture. She also gained weight as soon as she got here! We have more pasture than they do, and she immediately began chowing down.

I'm tempted to send Princess to Eden Farms for a while. She would benefit from the spoiling and the routine and having a pasture all to herself. I have a feeling this winter is going to be hard on her. The only downside is that I wouldn't see her very often. Well - that and the expense. It's much cheaper to have the horses here! I'm not going to make that decision one way or another until after my trip this month though.

Pax and Aslan are doing better. We've worked out a routine that enables them both to sleep on the bed without fighting. I, of course, still get woken up half a dozen times every night, but, well, I've lived with that for years, so why should it bother me now?

I haven't done any training with anyone recently. I got rain sheets for the horses, and Rowan has never worn such a thing, so I'm going to need to do some clicking this weekend to get it on her. She'll be fine, of course. The other horses have all worn blankets before, so it won't be a big deal to them. They're all rather pissy right now because I have them closed on the dry lot for the winter. Ain't nothing dry about that lot, though, and the mud drives us all crazy. Is it summer yet?
